Synopsis Of The Fall Guy (2024)

In the opening scene, we meet Colt Seavers, a rugged stuntman working for the renowned movie star, Tom Ryder. Colt's life is a whirlwind of dangerous stunts and high-octane action, but he endures it all for one reason: his deep affection for Jody Moreno, a talented camera operator with dreams of directing.

As the camera rolls on their latest project, Colt chats with Jody, their chemistry palpable. He suits up, strapping into a harness for a daring fall scene. But the thrill quickly turns to disaster when something goes terribly wrong. Colt plummets to the ground, suffering a severe back injury that changes everything.

Fast forward eighteen months, and we find Colt a shadow of his former self, working as a valet driver, disconnected from his past and Jody. One fateful day, a former coworker recognizes him, calling him "the fall guy" with a smirk, and demands his car. Colt, in a burst of defiance, returns the car with flair, spinning and doing donuts while the other valets cheer him on.

Later, a phone call from Gail Meyer, a seasoned producer known for working with Tom Ryder, offers Colt a chance at redemption. She wants him to be Ryder's stunt double in the upcoming sci-fi blockbuster, "Metalstorm." Initially, Colt refuses, but Gail has an ace up her sleeve: Jody Moreno is directing the movie.

Colt arrives on set and reunites with his old friend, stunt coordinator Dan Tucker. Dan breaks the news that Colt’s first major stunt will be a cannon roll. The thought unnerves Colt; he dreads the possibility of failing in front of Jody.

Meanwhile, Jody is in her element, orchestrating the set with precision, her focus unwavering even as explosions go off behind her. Colt kneels down, runs his fingers through the sand, and grumbles about its safety, his nerves betraying his growing anxiety. Sensing his hesitation, Dan steps in, boosting Colt’s confidence with a few well-chosen words.

Simultaneously, Jody is informed that the new stunt driver is none other than Colt. Her heart sinks at the thought of an untested driver handling the movie's most critical shot. As Colt gears up for the cannon roll stunt, a mix of excitement and dread fills the air.

The moment arrives. Colt hits the gas, and the car hurtles forward. He clips the camera Jody is operating, but the filming continues unabated. The car explodes, somersaulting through the air in a spectacular display. As the dust settles, the crew rushes to the wreckage, breathless with anticipation. Colt, ever the showman, gives a thumbs-up, signaling he’s okay. They pull him from the car, and he embraces Dan, relief washing over them both.

Jody, now approaching, recognizes Colt beneath the gear. Her reaction is far from the warm reunion Colt hoped for. Instead, her expression is strained, contradicting Gail’s earlier assurance that Jody had specifically requested him.

For Colt’s next stunt, he faces a fiery challenge: being set ablaze and blown against a wall. As the flames die down and the scene wraps, tensions ignite between Colt and Jody. They dissect the scene, but their discussion veers into personal territory, with their relationship issues playing out in front of the crew. The crew sides with Jody, adding to Colt’s frustration. Anger flaring, Jody forces Colt to repeat the stunt multiple times, venting her frustrations through relentless perfectionism.

At the end of the grueling day, Colt visits Gail in her trailer. He fumbles with a broken coffee machine, trying to find some semblance of normalcy. Gail enters, showering him with praise for his performance. The conversation takes a serious turn when Gail reveals that Tom Ryder has gone missing, tangled up with some unsavory characters. She tasks Colt with a mission: find Ryder and bring him back within 48 hours to save Jody's film.

Sitting in his car, Colt reminisces about his past with Jody, tears falling as he listens to Taylor Swift's song. Suddenly, Jody appears. Colt hurriedly wipes his tears and plays it cool as she gets in the car. She expresses how much the film means to her, and Colt, determined not to let her down, promises not to derail the production. With a renewed sense of purpose, Colt sets off to find Ryder.

Colt arrives at his apartment, making himself at home, when he is ambushed by Iggy Starr, Ryder's girlfriend and the lead actress of "Metalstorm." After a chaotic scuffle, Colt realizes Iggy is wielding a prop sword. He manages to explain his mission to find Ryder for the sake of the film. Iggy, relenting, directs him to a nightclub Ryder frequents, advising him to seek out Ryder's drug dealer for more information.

Colt, dressed to impress, strides into the club and quickly locates Doone, the drug dealer. When he inquires about Ryder, Doone slyly hands Colt a drugged drink and signals his goons to handle him. Despite tripping from the drug, Colt's reflexes kick in, and he takes down three thugs before pursuing Doone into the street. In a daring move, Colt leaps in front of a cab, stopping Doone’s escape. Under pressure, Doone admits he was paid to drug Colt and directs him to a hotel, instructing him to ask for someone named Kevin and a "fruit platter."

At the hotel, Colt unexpectedly runs into Jody, who is visibly frustrated with the studio's interference in her film’s love story. Colt reassures her briefly before seeking out Kevin, the concierge. Kevin hands over the "fruit platter," which turns out to be the key to Ryder’s hotel room. After several failed attempts to unlock the door, Colt resorts to brute force, breaking it down.

Just then, Jody calls, and their conversation shifts from film ideas to playful banter, providing Colt a momentary reprieve from his chaotic mission. After hanging up, Colt explores the room and discovers a chilling sight: the lifeless body of another stuntman, Henry Herrera, lying in a bathtub filled with ice. Colt immediately contacts Gail to relay the grim discovery. Gail, alarmed, advises him to avoid involving the police.

However, Colt’s plans change abruptly when police officers approach him about his illegally parked car. He decides to come clean about the body. The officers follow him to the hotel room, but to Colt’s shock, the tub is empty—the body has mysteriously vanished.

The next day on set, Dan grumbles that Jody has been inspired by her talk with Colt, now pushing for grander, more complex ideas for the shoot. With Ryder still missing, Jody asks Colt to stand in for him, planning to use deepfake technology to overlay Ryder's face in post-production. After nailing the shot, Jody invites Colt out for karaoke, and he eagerly agrees.

En route to karaoke, Colt encounters Alma Martin, Tom's assistant, accompanied by a trained dog named Jean-Claude, with whom Colt has worked before. Colt inquires about Ryder’s whereabouts, and Alma reveals she last saw Tom and Henry at a wild party before Gail called her away. She also mentions she has Ryder's phone and plans to hand it over to Colt. As they talk, they are interrupted by Ryder's intimidating head of security, Dressler, who taunts them before abducting Alma in his truck.

Determined to rescue Alma, Colt grabs Jean-Claude and commandeers a nearby truck to pursue them. Meanwhile, Jody waits at the karaoke bar, growing anxious when Gail approaches, informing her that Ryder won’t be showing up. Resigned yet undeterred, Jody takes the stage, pouring her emotions into a heartfelt rendition of "Take a Look at Me Now."

Back on the streets, Colt engages in a high-speed chase, battling Dressler’s goons. With Jean-Claude's help, they manage to leap onto the van. Jean-Claude proves invaluable, biting the goons in the balls, incapacitating them, before moving to the front to assist Alma in overpowering the driver.

Colt and Jean-Claude manage to stop Dressler's vehicle, with Colt crashing through the windshield but miraculously remaining unharmed. They rush to the karaoke bar, only to find Jody has already left. Determined to uncover the truth, Colt and Dan hand over Ryder's phone to Venti, a tech-savvy crew member, to hack into. However, she needs Ryder's password to unlock it.

The duo heads to Ryder's apartment, scouring through his plethora of post-it note reminders until they finally find the password written in plain sight. Venti successfully unlocks the phone, revealing a damning video. The footage shows Ryder, Iggy, and some of Ryder’s friends with Henry, who jests about Ryder not performing his own stunts. Ryder attempts a stunt, accidentally knocking Henry over and causing his death.

Just as they process this, Venti calls Dan with urgent news: the media is reporting on Henry's death, and Colt is being named the prime suspect. Before they can react, Dressler and his goons storm in, opening fire. Dressler destroys Ryder's phone with a well-aimed shot from Colt's hands. A fierce battle ensues, with Colt and Dan fighting off the goons. Colt manages to escape outside and makes a daring leap onto Ryder's boat, crashing through the roof.

Inside the boat, Colt comes face-to-face with Ryder, only to be knocked out cold. He regains consciousness to find himself tied up, with Ryder looming over him, demanding the return of his phone. The tension peaks as Colt realizes he must escape and clear his name while exposing the truth about Henry’s death.

Ryder confesses to Colt that he was the one who killed Henry and framed Colt to be the fall guy for the crime. He further reveals that the entire cover-up was orchestrated by Gail after he confided in her. Ryder also admits to sabotaging Colt’s accident, feeling threatened by Colt's growing popularity.

Meanwhile, Gail meets with Jody, trying to convince her that Colt is responsible for Henry's murder. Jody, knowing Colt’s gentle nature, refuses to believe it. When Colt attempts to call Jody, Gail deliberately gets her phone wet, preventing Jody from answering.

Back on the boat, Ryder learns from Colt that Dressler destroyed the crucial phone. Enraged, Ryder orders his goons to douse Colt with kerosene, preparing to set him on fire. Quick-thinking, Colt spits kerosene at Dressler when he tries to ignite him. In the ensuing chaos, Colt escapes, hopping onto another boat. Despite having his hands tied, he steers the boat away, eventually freeing himself.

Colt reaches Jody and urgently explains why he disappeared after his injury. As they talk, Ryder’s goons open fire on him. Colt’s boat crashes and explodes, but he manages to leap to safety just in time. Believed to be dead, Colt’s apparent suicide is widely reported. Deepfake technology is then used to replace Ryder’s face with Colt's in the incriminating video showing Henry’s death.

Determined to set things right, Colt contacts Dan. Together, they devise a plan for Colt to sneak back onto the set in disguise. With the help of some convincing alien makeup from the movie, Colt blends in, ready to expose the truth and clear his name once and for all.

Colt sneaks up on Jody, but she reacts defensively, beating him up until he reveals his identity. As soon as she recognizes him, Jody pulls Colt into an embrace and kisses him, their moment interrupted by Gail’s arrival outside. Colt quickly hides, and Jody listens as Gail discusses Colt’s supposed death and her plans to replace the big car jump stunt with VFX, focusing on Ryder's final monologue instead.

Once Gail leaves, Colt and Jody hatch a plan to get Ryder to confess to the murder. Knowing Ryder tends to speak unfiltered when miked, they decide to have him perform the car jump himself, secretly recording his confession. The crew sets up for the big scene, filming Ryder's monologue first. Jody convinces Ryder to get into the car, claiming she needs a close-up shot that wasn't originally planned for VFX.

During the scene, Colt, still in disguise, slips into the car and reveals himself to Ryder. As he starts driving away, Dressler and his goons give chase. Jody and Dan use explosives to hold them off, buying Colt enough time. As Colt races towards the jump, he goads Ryder into admitting the murder and the framing, implicating Gail as the mastermind behind it all.

Colt executes the epic jump across a canyon, knocking Ryder unconscious upon landing. Gail, realizing the confession has been recorded, rushes to the camera crew and steals the tape. Gail arranges for a helicopter to extract her and Ryder from the scene. Just as they attempt to escape, Jody maneuvers Colt towards the helicopter. He leaps aboard and confronts both Gail and Ryder in the air, while the chopper suspends above the ground.

A fierce battle ensues inside the helicopter as it sways perilously. Colt manages to seize the tape containing Ryder's confession from Gail. Gail then tries to shoot Colt, only to discover her gun is empty. Colt leaps from the helicopter, timing his jump perfectly to land on a crash mat set up by the crew below.

With the confession tape secured, Colt and Jody embrace in celebration, sealing their victory with a kiss. The police arrive to arrest Ryder and Gail after their crashing helicopter scene. To Colt's surprise, the lead cops turning up are none other than Lee Majors and Heather Thomas, stars of the original "Fall Guy" TV show.

However, Ryder makes a last-ditch effort to escape, running onto the set and inadvertently triggering pyrotechnics that engulf him. Alma seizes the opportunity to call Jason Momoa's agent.

The film "Metalstorm" eventually hits theaters with Momoa replacing Ryder, becoming a blockbuster hit. Alma earns her producer credit, cementing her place in the industry. Colt remarks that while the heroes in the film found their happy ending, he and Jody have found theirs as well.
