Plot synopsis of Flight Risk (2025)

The movie begins at a motel, where a mob accountant named Winston is seen sitting in his room, nervously glancing outside as if he is hiding from someone. Suddenly, a group of police officers led by Deputy U.S. Marshal Madolyn bursts into the room and arrests him. They throw him onto the bed, and Madolyn tells Winston that it was very hard to locate him.

Winston then makes a deal with her. He is ready to testify against a mafia boss, Moretti, in New York, but insists that he needs extra protection; otherwise, Moretti will kill him. Madolyn agrees to provide him with protection, and they both head to the airport to transport Winston to New York. They charter a small private jet, and both get inside. Madolyn chains Winston to a seat so that he cannot move.

Shortly after, the pilot, named Daryl, arrives, and Madolyn sits with the pilot in the front seat while Winston remains chained in the back. The pilot asks her to sit with Winston, as he might try to flee, but she reassures him that Winston is restrained and cannot move. The pilot mentions that he has never flown a fugitive before, but Winston clarifies that he is a cooperating government witness, not a fugitive. Madolyn silences him, and the plane takes off.

As they fly high above the Alaskan mountains, the plane begins to experience turbulence. Madolyn asks the pilot about it, but he does not hear her as he is wearing headphones. When the plane reaches 3,000 ft, Madolyn notices a bruise on the pilot's neck and asks him about it. He explains that it happened during maintenance work. Suddenly, a bird hits the plane, causing it to lose control, but the pilot manages to regain control.

Meanwhile, back in his seat, Winston notices something on the floor. He uses his foot to drag it closer and sees the real pilot’s license, which belongs to Daryl. It becomes clear that the person flying the plane is not the real pilot and has taken charge of the plane. Winston tries to get Madolyn’s attention to inform her about this, but she does not hear him as she is wearing headphones. He bites his watch strap and throws it at Madolyn, who immediately looks at him.

Winston tells her that he dropped something on the floor, so she can find it, but she ignores him. Then the pilot turns around, and Madolyn notices blood on his clothes, which makes her suspicious. Meanwhile, Winston, feeling his life is in danger, starts gasping heavily. In that moment, the pilot’s cover is blown—he is a hitman sent by mob boss Moretti to kill Winston and stop him from testifying.

Madolyn pulls out her gun, but he stops her and throws it away. She then punches him, but he pulls out a knife and roughly beats her, telling her that he doesn’t want to kill her; he is there to kill Winston and stop his testimony. He handcuffs her to the front seat and continues flying the plane. After a few minutes of flying, the pilot tells Winston that Moretti is very disappointed in him and has sent him to kill him.

Winston says he hasn’t said a single word against him yet and offers a million dollars in crypto if he sets him free. He also tells him that one of the guys from Massachusetts got $225,000 a month for a year, and he will also get money. However, the pilot rejects his offer and tells him to shut up. Meanwhile, Madolyn is regaining consciousness. When the pilot tries to kill her by strangling her, she secretly pulls out her electrical device and places it on his neck, subduing him.

However, he regains consciousness and tries to attack her, but she continues giving him electrical shocks, which causes the plane’s controls to be pressed, making it descend rapidly. She continues shocking him, and eventually, he passes out for a moment. She kicks him into the back seat and struggles to steady the plane. The plane nearly crashes, but she finally manages to regain control and takes it back into the sky.

After this, she handcuffs the pilot so that he cannot harm them any further. However, Winston tells her to shoot him, but she insists they need him alive to testify. She then checks his pocket and finds pictures of her, Winston, and his house—where Winston’s mother lives—meaning the pilot has already been keeping an eye on them. They both drag the pilot into the back seat and firmly cuff him.

After that, Madolyn goes to the front seat to control the plane, but since she doesn’t know how to fly, she contacts the tower for help. The tower responds to her call, but before she can say anything, the radio stops working. She then grabs the satellite phone and reaches out to her officer friend, Van Sant. She tells her about the situation happening on the plane, revealing that the pilot isn't who he claimed to be—he’s one of mafia boss Moretti’s men.

She adds that she is flying the plane and it's currently on autopilot. She tells Van Sant that she needs someone to guide her in flying the plane, and Van says she will find a pilot to help her, then hangs up. Suddenly, the pilot wakes up and starts mocking them. Madolyn asks for his real name, but he refuses to reveal it. She points a gun at him, with Winston suggesting she shoot, but the pilot warns that if she shoots him, the bullet will pass through him into the fuel tank, causing everyone to die.

Madolyn then makes a deal: if he guides her in flying the plane, she will let him peacefully go to prison, but he disagrees. Shortly after, she receives a satellite call from a pilot named Hassen. Initially, Hassen tries to flirt with her, suggesting that after she lands safely, they should meet for dinner. After some minutes of flirtation, he starts teaching her, guiding her on how to use the instruments and the control panel. She learns it, and he tells her to feel free to call him if she needs further help.

She then continues flying the plane. Meanwhile, the fake pilot is trying to break free but can’t, and starts singing a song. Madolyn doesn’t pay much attention to him and continues flying. The pilot then brings up Winston’s mother, saying she is sweet and lovely. He also says that after he breaks free, he will go kill her. Winston wonders how he knows his mom’s address and tells Madolyn that he gave the address to the U.S. attorney, and besides them, no one else knows the address.

Just then, Van Sant calls and informs Madolyn that they are sending a fighter jet for their rescue. She also adds that they searched the real pilot’s apartment and found him brutally killed. Suddenly, the plane automatically starts to descend, losing control and almost crashing into the mountain. However, Madolyn manages to make a sharp turn, grazing the mountain but successfully ascending.

Meanwhile, the pilot notices a knife and tries to grab it with his foot, but fails. He then reveals a secret about Madolyn, claiming she killed one of the last prisoners, which is why her superiors don’t trust her. Furious, Madolyn approaches him and starts beating him, asking how he knows about this. This makes her realize that someone in her department is secretly giving information to the mafia boss.

Confused, Winston asks Madolyn what he’s talking about, and she finally reveals the truth. Two years ago, she caught up with a young woman, Maria, who had been on the run. DEA agents tasked Madolyn with convincing Maria to turn against her boyfriend, who was a cartel boss. Maria was going to testify against her cartel boyfriend just like Winston. Madolyn was instructed to protect Maria, meaning she could never leave her alone.

Madolyn broke protocol by letting Maria shower without supervision. While Maria was in the bathroom, someone threw a Molotov cocktail through a window, and Maria was burned to death. This incident directly caused the lack of trust from her superiors. As Madolyn explains everything, the pilot continues trying to break free.

At that moment, she receives a call from Van Sant. Madolyn tells her that someone in their Marshal department is leaking information to the mafia boss—not from the FBI or the attorney’s office, but from Van Sant herself. Enraged by the accusation, Van Sant angrily hangs up the call. After flying for some time, they reach the coast, and she calls Hassen again to inform him they have reached it.

Hassen instructs her to go left and follow the coastline east so they can land the plane. At the same time, she remembers something. She asks Winston about the money he’s been paying—$25,000 a month. She asks where and to whom he sent the money. Winston reveals that the money was sent to San Diego, which confirms to Madolyn that the director is the one secretly selling crucial information to the mafia.

Suddenly, the pilot manages to break free, stabs Winston with a knife, and chokes Madolyn. She tries to reach for the gun, but he takes it. He then attempts to kill her, but before doing so, he asks if she wants to know his real name. He even roughly chokes her, almost killing her, but Winston pulls out the knife that’s stabbed in him and cuts the lace that’s choking Madolyn, freeing her.

The pilot then starts shooting at Madolyn, but she hides behind the seat. She grabs what looks like a gun and fires at him, causing his chest to burn. She grabs a fire extinguisher and hits him, causing him to collapse for a moment. She then tends to Winston’s wound, applying pressure to his chest. She reaches out to her team and tells them what just happened. She instructs them to stand by once they land and increases the speed of the plane so they can land quickly.

Winston, who is badly injured, apologizes to Madolyn, saying it’s all his fault for putting her in such a dangerous situation. He also tells her that if he dies, she should go to his mom’s home to check on her. Madolyn comforts him, saying his mother is fine and there’s no need to worry. She then calls the director, accusing him of being a traitor and giving all the crucial information to the mafia.

The director tells her no one believes her because of the mistake she made in the past, but she replies that the jury will listen. She then threatens him, saying she will see him in New York, and hangs up the call. Meanwhile, Hassen calls and tells her they are about to land soon. She then sees a runway, and Hassen gives her permission to land on it. Just as she is about to land, the pilot breaks free again and tries to take the plane back into the air. She pushes him and shoots three times into his legs.

The plane starts to become unbalanced while Hassen tells her to steady it. Just then, the fuel runs out, and the engine stops working. Hassen instructs her that she doesn’t need the engine to land the plane; she just needs to keep it steady. The plane comes close to the runway, and she barely manages to land it. Many ambulances and police cars rush toward the plane.

The rough landing causes parts of the plane to separate, and the pilot falls from the plane, gets hit by an ambulance, and dies. Finally, the plane stops, and an officer puts Winston into the ambulance. Meanwhile, Hassen—the one who was instructing Madolyn on the plane—appears, and they both smile. She then spots a strange officer sent by the director entering an ambulance to kill Winston.

She runs toward it and sees the officer trying to kill Winston by wrapping plastic around his face. She shoots him and saves Winston. She then hugs Winston while Hassen watches sadly. Then, a phone rings on a man’s mobile from the director. The director asks him if the job is done, to which Madolyn replies, “No, sir.”
